Iranian Democrats Ask Pro-Democracy Forces around the World for
Solidarity
As is well-known, the ruling regime in
Iran has not only been increasing repression of dissidents and
imposing harsher tyranny in the past years, but also has been
increasing its military adventurism and bellicose policies in the
Middle East region and aggravating civil wars, and poverty. After
the recent protests in over 100 cities and small towns all over the
country, the people were protesting terrible economic situation,
unemployment, and poverty, the regime has responded with mass
arrests and further repression of the youth, intellectuals, workers,
and scientists.
Therefore, it appears that the Islamic Republic regime, itself, is
pushing the society toward a larger confrontation, although one may
not be able to predict when the tipping point will occur or how
large the dimensions of the conflagration. Such a violent conflict
will have horrendous consequences for the region. As was also seen
in the cases of Syria and Libya, such a conflict may also have
direct impact on many European countries.
Since its founding in 1949, the Iran National Front, in its
relentless struggles against the dictatorship of the Pahlavi
monarchy and the tyranny of the Islamic Republic, has been
attempting to establish democracy while avoiding the dangers of
chaos and anarchy during the transition from dictatorship to
democracy. Unfortunately, the Islamic Republic has never respected
our basic human rights and has never allowed us to use legal avenues
to promote democracy and human rights in Iran as well as to promote
our views on how to achieve peace and tranquility in the region. For
example, in the past year alone, on three major occasions, the
intelligence and security of the regime prevented the leaders of the
Iran National Front to meet at their own homes.
The officials of the Iran National Front have written a letter to
President Hassan Rouhani and are demanding that their right be
respected to hold a public rally on March 5, on the anniversary of
the passing of Dr. Mohammad Mossadegh who had founded the Iran
National Front and was the Prime Minister of Iran from 1951 to 1953.
The Iran National Front wishes to express its opposition to the
grave domestic policies of the regime and to the adventurist foreign
policy of the Islamic Republic. Although the constitution of the
fundamentalist regime recognizes the right of the people to hold
peaceful rallies, this right has never been respected for those who
oppose the ruling dictatorship. The following is the text of the
letter:
Dr. Hassan Rouhani, the Esteemed President,
With respect and greetings,
After the recent protests, you, the esteemed Minister of Interior,
and other officials of the Islamic Republic have repeatedly declared
that the government does not oppose the people holding protests
legally. And that the people have the right of the freedom of
expression and that they can present their views and suggestions on
the politics of the country. Based on these declarations and based
on Article 27 of the Constitution, Iran National Front, has made the
decision to invite the people of Tehran to attend a public rally in
these critical days so that they can hear views and suggestions of
the Iran National Front. Because as President, you have taken the
oath to uphold the Constitution and protect the rights of the
people, we are asking you to order the Ministry of Interior to
declare that it would agree to our right to hold the rally and its
security. We suggest the time of this rally to be on the afternoon
of March 5, 2018 and at any place in Tehran.
Tehran, Executive Committee and Leadership Committee of the Iran
National Front
January 30, 2018
We are asking all the pro-freedom and pro-democracy forces around
the world to support the Iranian pro-peace and pro-democracy
opposition, and to utilize all their diplomatic capabilities to
pressure the Islamic Republic to issue the permit for the Iran
National Front’s rally, so that the Iranian people may hear the Iran
National Front’s policies and solutions for Iran’s future. We are of
the opinion that the overwhelming majority of the Iranian people
want a form of government that would provide stability, security,
peace, democracy, and separation of religion and the state.
