Press COMMUNIQUE
The People of
Iran Want Peace
In these perilous days, the
top officials of the Islamic regime in Iran
from the Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to the
disputed President and the commanders of the
Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps have been
making bellicose statements. Such bellicose
remarks are like pouring gasoline on fire of
those in the U.S. and Israel
who advocate military attacks on Iran. What would be the reaction of
the Iranian people towards the war mongering
tendencies of the leaders of the Islamic
regime of Iran
on the one hand and those outside
Iran
who promote war?
Both the supporters of war outside Iran and
the war mongers of the Islamic regime
promote the idea that because the Iranian
people have remained silent, their silence
means that they support war or are not
strongly against it. Such ideas create
conditions which increase the likelihood of
confrontations leading to war. Such a war
will have devastating consequences for Iran.
The leaders of the Islamic regime apparently
believe that continuing and increasing
global tensions are of advantage for their
regime’s survival. Until today, this regime
has relied upon creating crises after crises
to survive. It appears that this regime is
inviting military conflict in order to
divert the attention of the people from
domestic problems. It believes that under
the current conditions, a military attack
will make it easier to suppress the domestic
opposition and dissent of a population, the
overwhelming majority of whom opposes this
regime. To this mafia-like regime it is of
no great importance that such a catastrophic
war will bring grave loss of live, destroy
the country’s industries and national
wealth. The current rulers are inspired by
Ayatollah Khomeini who regarded war as
“divine blessing” for his government. They
are preoccupied with messianic ideas and
regard a great war as a sign of the arrival
of the 12th Imam, the Mahdi, and they
believe that the Muslims of the world should
be happy to witness his arrival.
The world should know that this regime is
not only not safeguarding security, rights
and freedom of the people of our country,
but that this regime itself is the worst
abuser of our rights and freedoms and that
because of this, it lacks the support of the
majority of the Iranian people. Such a
regime lacks the credibility to speak on
behalf of the Iranian people on matters of
life and death. The Iranian people have been
struggling for freedom, independence, peace,
and territorial integrity of
Iran
against this regime, which is the biggest
obstacle to freedom, democracy, peace and
security. The Islamic regime in Iran is the
main entity responsible for any potential
war in the future, an issue that is not to
be obscured for the peoples around the
world.
The recent history of
Iran
shows that the Iranian people have wanted
peace and peaceful coexistence with other
peoples around the world and have regarded
military conflict as the wrong means to
resolve conflicts. The world should
distinguish between the Iranian people --
who wish to see a foreign policy which would
guarantee Iran’s rights, comity and amity
with other nations, respect for friendly
relations with all other countries,
especially our neighbors, as well as respect
for international conventions -- and the
totalitarian regime that is currently ruling
Iran.
We hope to see all the democratic and
progressive organizations in Iran and around
the world spread the pro-peace voice of the
Iranian people. We need to tell the world
that the Iranian people are not responsible
for the adventurist and bellicose policies
of the Islamic regime ruling Iran. We need to tell the world that
we should defend peace and oppose any form
of war and military attacks.
